When the front doors are unlocked or locked, the central locking system simultaneously unlocks or locks all doors and, depending on the position of the rear door lock, also this lock.
The central locking system is equipped with a self-insurance system: after the car is locked from the outside, the door lock buttons are activated. This makes it difficult for unauthorized persons to enter the car.
The central locking system can be controlled from the outside either by key or by remote radio control.
Vehicle locking points:
- outside: front doors;
- from the inside: central locking control button in the driver's door armrest.
Unlocking
When the car is unlocked, all door lock buttons rise. The self-insurance and alarm system are immediately switched off, which is accompanied by a short flashing of all direction indicators.
When the vehicle is unlocked, the interior lights, the switches of which are in the door contact control position, light up for approximately 20 seconds.
If you hold the key in the unlock position, all windows will open on vehicles with electric windows.
In case of failure of the central door locking system, all locks can be controlled in the usual way. When the self-insurance is on, the rear doors cannot be opened.
If there is a malfunction in the central locking system, this is indicated by the backlight of the electric window control switches on both the front and rear doors flashing for approximately 15 seconds. You should contact a Volkswagen service centre.
Locking
To lock your car, turn the key in one of the front doors once to the locking position. All side doors and the rear door will be locked. The self-insurance and alarm system will be activated immediately, which is accompanied by a short flashing of all direction indicators, as well as a characteristic sound signal.

When the vehicle is locked, the interior lights, the switches of which are in the door contact control position, are switched off.
The functional readiness of the self-insurance system is indicated by the flashing of the control lamp located near the driver's door lock button.
Warning: No one should be left in a car locked from the outside, especially small children, as the doors cannot be opened from the inside. This is especially important in the case of cars with electric windows, as in this case the windows cannot be opened either.
Warning: When the driver's door lock button is pressed, all other doors are automatically locked. Since it is difficult to provide assistance from outside if necessary when the doors are locked, children should never be left unattended in the vehicle.
If you turn the key in the lock twice in a row within one second, all side doors and the rear door will be locked. The self-insurance and alarm system will not be activated.
When the self-insurance is switched off, the car can be unlocked from the inside. To do this, you should pull the inner handle of the lock of the corresponding door until the lock button is raised. If you pull the handle of the lock again, the door will open.
On vehicles equipped with power windows or an electric sliding roof panel, as well as central locking of locks, the door windows or sunroof left open can be centrally closed. To do this, hold the key in the locking position until all the windows and sunroof are completely closed.
The doors can also be locked by pressing the door lock buttons. However, the self-locking is not activated. When the driver's door is locked, all other doors are also locked.
When the driver's door is open, its lock cannot be locked using the lock button. This eliminates the situation where the driver finds himself outside a car that is locked from the inside.
When the driver's door is open or not fully closed (incomplete fixation of the locking mechanism) the car locks are not locked. If the car locks are locked using the front left door lock, this door, like the driver's door, must be completely closed.
REAR DOOR
When the key slot (a) is in the vertical position, the rear door lock is automatically locked or unlocked by the central locking system. In addition, the lock can be locked or unlocked separately using the key.
If the key slot (b) is in a horizontal position, the lock remains locked for a long time after the rear door is locked. The rear door can then only be unlocked with the key.
To unlock the rear door, turn the key to the right until it stops (c), pull the handle and lift the rear door.
