Replacement
1. Disconnect the ground wire from the battery.
2. Remove the instrument panel (see chapter "Electrical equipment") and press together the two clips on both sides of the cable connector on the back of the instrument panel (are shown by arrows in Figure P:25). Disconnect the cable from the speedometer.
3. Trace the speedometer cable to the transmission (see chapter "Clutch and manual transmission"), unscrew the speedometer drive mounting screw and pull the cable out of the gearbox.
4. Carefully pull the cable out of the bulkhead and instrument panel.
5. The cable is installed in the reverse order.
The cable must not have any kinks or obstructions in its path. On Scirocco models, the cable is secured under the dashboard with a plastic clip.
