The periphery of the auxiliary air heater heating element "Z35" (load signal for alternator terminal DF, relay for low heating power "J359", relay for high heating power "J360", intake air temperature sensor "G72", coolant temperature sensor -G62-) can be checked using self-diagnosis of the engine control unit.

Verification condition

  • Intake air temperature is below 19°C.
  • Coolant temperature below 80°C.
  • The temperature in the cabin is about 20°C
  • The battery voltage exceeds 11 V.
  • Generator load does not exceed 50% (terminal DF)
  • Engine speed exceeds 450 rpm
  • Internal temperature controller in maximum heating position

Procedure for conducting an inspection

Procedure for conducting an inspection

Remove the left footwell air duct. Remove the trim of the center console in the left footwell. Measure the current in the ground wire arrow using the tester -VAS 5051B- and the 100 A current clamp -VAS 5051 B/7-.
  • Low heat = 30 amps
  • Average heat = 00 amps
  • High heat = 80 amps

Removal and installation

Remove the driver's side footwell trim. Remove the left footwell air duct. Loosen screws "A" and remove cover "B".

Instructions: The temperature control flap drive lever "C" may be positioned so that access to bolt "A" is blocked. In this case, the temperature control flap position should be changed using the temperature control knob, and in cars with air conditioning, using the display and control panel, for example. Towards increasing temperature ("Hi").
