Fault recognition and error indication
The onboard power supply management system is equipped with a self-diagnostic function that makes it easier to find errors. For troubleshooting, use the tester -VAS 5051A- in the "Guided Fault Finding".
Instruction: The following pictures show the work on the rear light in the rear door on the left side of vehicles for right-hand traffic. Work on the rear light in the rear door on the right side is carried out in the same way. In addition to the rear light, the rear light also includes a fog light in the tailgate. The fog light bulb on right hand drive vehicles is located in the left rear light only, on left hand drive vehicles only in the right tail light, and is not available as a spare part on US and Canadian vehicles.
Rear light in tailgate
- 1 - Fixing nuts, 3 Nm, follow tightening sequence
- 2 - Right tail light bulb -M2- or left tail light bulb -M4-, replace
- 3 - Rear light housing in the tailgate
- 4 - Left rear fog light bulb -L46- or right fog light bulb -L47-, renew
Removal and installation of a back lantern (rear light block) in the back door
Instruction: The following pictures show the removal and installation work on the rear light (rear light block) in the back door on the left side. Removal and installation on the rear light (rear light block) in the rear door on the right side are performed similarly.
Switch off the ignition and all electrical consumers, remove the ignition key. Unclip service cover -1- in -direction of arrow- from trim.
Unlock and unplug electrical connector -1-. Remove securing nuts -2- and -3- and remove rear light from tailgate.
Installation is carried out in the reverse order.
Note: The connector for the rear light in the tailgate must engage when fitting "with audible" click.
Slide the rear light into the body opening and position it at the top and center for installation. Tighten first the upper nut -2- and then the lower nut -3- to the specified tightening torque. After installing the lantern, check the gap with the body.
Replacing the rear light bulb in the tailgate
Instructions: The following illustrations show how to replace the bulb on the left rear light -M4- in the rear door on the left side of vehicles for right-hand traffic. Replacing the bulb on the right rear light -M2- in the rear door on the right side on vehicles for left-hand traffic is carried out in the same way.
Switch off the ignition and all electrical consumers, remove the ignition key. Unclip service cover -1- in -direction of arrow- from trim.
Unlock and unplug electrical connector -1-. Using a suitable screwdriver, carefully press the tail light bulb socket -1- out of the retainer.
Remove rear light bulb -1- in -direction of arrow- from socket -2-. Rear light bulb: 12V, 5W.
Installation in reverse order.
Note: The connector for the rear light in the tailgate must engage when fitting "with audible" click.
Check the function of the rear light (backlight block).
Replacing the rear fog light bulb in the tailgate
Instruction: The rear light bracket for the tail light in the tailgate also includes the rear fog light bulb. The rear fog lamp on right-hand drive vehicles is located in the left rear light only, on left-hand drive vehicles the pebbles are in the right tail light, and are not available as a spare part on US and Canadian vehicles. The following graphic shows the work to be done on replacing the bulb on the left rear fog light -L46- in the rear door on the left side on right-hand traffic vehicles. Replacing the bulb for the right rear fog light -L47- in the rear door on the right on left-hand traffic vehicles is carried out in the same way.
Switch off the ignition and all electrical consumers, remove the ignition key. Unclip service cover -1- in -direction of arrow- from trim.
Remove rear fog light bulb socket -1- from rear light.
Press the rear fog light bulb -1- into the socket and turn it to unlock it in the -direction of the arrow-. Rear fog light bulb: 12V, 21W.
Installation in reverse order. Check the function of the rear light (rear light block).
