1. If, when the car is raised and you grab the wheel, this wheel can be rocked, if its axial play is noticeable, it is necessary to adjust the bearings.
2. To adjust them, remove the hub cover and unscrew the nut.
3. Screw the nut back in by hand while turning the wheel until the axial play disappears.
4. Without changing the position of the nut, tap it into the groove of the shaft. If the nut has already undergone this operation twice, replace it.

5. If you are unable to eliminate axial play or the possibility of "rocking" in this way, this indicates that the bearings are worn out. Do not try to overtighten the nut to solve the problem.
6. To replace the front hub bearings, remove the brake pad as described in Chapter 9, and tie it to the side. There is no need to disconnect the brake hose.

7. Unscrew the nut and remove the thrust washer.
8. Pull the disc/hub assembly forward slightly and then back. This will help remove the outer bearing.
9. Remove the hub completely from the axle shaft.
10. Check the working surfaces of the bearing and seal on the axle shaft. If they are rough or raised, the axle shaft will have to be replaced.

11. Remove the oil seal from the hub, then remove the inner bearing race.
12. The outer bearing race can be removed from the hub by simply squeezing it out, carefully using a punch.
13. Be careful not to mix up the components of the different bearings if you are disassembling both front hubs at the same time.
14. Install the outer races of the new bearing, then the inner roller housing. Tap the new seal into the hub until it is flush with the surface.
15. Half fill the inner cavity of the hub with bearing grease and apply a small amount to the lips of the oil seal.
16. Install the disc/hub assembly onto the axle shaft. Install the outer roller housing and thrust washer, and tighten the nut.
17. Adjust the bearings as described in steps 9 and 4 in this Section.
18. Put the hub cap back in place, install the brake shoe. tightening the bolts to the required degree, and then install the wheel.
