Adjust the gap between the breaker contacts.
Instruction. The engine oil temperature should be 30-70°.
Connect the stroboscope according to its instruction manual.
Disconnect the vacuum hose (if there) from the vacuum ignition timing controller.
Connect the tachometer according to its instruction manual.
Set the engine speed to 800-900 rpm. When adjusting the ignition, the carburetor throttle must always be closed. In order to increase the number of revolutions, in no case should the throttle valve be opened.
Attention! A V-belt pulley can have up to three locating grooves. Which one is needed for adjustment is shown in the table "Ignition Timing Adjustment Data". The same table indicates whether it is necessary to disconnect the tube from the vacuum regulator of the ignition distributor when adjusting. In order to avoid mistakes when performing work, you should mark with chalk the desired groove on the pulley.
Illuminate the ignition timing groove on the belt pulley with a stroboscope. With a properly adjusted ignition, it should coincide with the junction of the halves of the engine block.
Attention! If the ignition timing groove does not stay in place when illuminated by a strobe light, the following problems may occur:
- dry slider on breaker lever (lubricate);
- the breaker plate has deviations from the allowable dimensions (compare with new part).
If the ignition timing is not set correctly, loosen the clamping bolt of the ignition distributor and slowly turn the distributor, illuminating the groove with a strobe light while the engine is running.
When the ignition timing groove on the belt pulley aligns with the joint between the engine block halves, tighten the ignition distributor clamp bolt. Check the ignition timing again with the engine running and correct if necessary.
Connect the tube to the vacuum ignition timing controller.
If there is no stroboscope, then adjustment can be made using a control lamp. However, after this, the stroboscope adjustment should be checked as soon as possible.
