Maintenance and inspection of spark plugs (VW Beetle)

Every 10,000 km, the spark plugs need to be removed and their appearance, the gap between the electrodes and the quality of the spark checked. During operation, due to metal burnout, the gap between the electrodes increases. With increased spark plug gap; you need to unscrew it, check the gap with a feeler gauge and, if necessary, adjust it by bending the side electrode. The gap between the electrodes of all spark plugs should be between 0.6 and 0.8 mm. If the plugs are heavily soiled, they can be cleaned with a brass brush or, better yet, a sandblaster. The spark plug insulator must also be clean and dry.

Spark plugs must be replaced every 20,000 km.
