Removal and installation of a tandem pump (VW Passat B6)

Caution: The tandem pump must not be disassembled under any circumstances, otherwise it will lead to improper operation of the vacuum part. The consequence may be the failure of the brake booster.


Removal



Remove the engine cover.

Loosen the screw and pull the air filter housing up from the mount (fig. 2.253).

Remove the air filter housing together with the air flow meter and connecting pipe.

Remove the supply hose 1 (white marking) and drain hose 2 (blue marking) from the fuel filter.

Connect a hand vacuum pump with accessories with a container for sucking out liquid to the fuel drain hose 2 (fig. 2.337).



Press the hand vacuum pump until no more fuel comes out of the fuel drain hose. Be careful not to let any fuel get into the hand vacuum pump.

Remove the vacuum line from the brake booster 1 and the tandem pump 4 (fig. 2.338).

Remove the supply hose 2 (white marking) and fuel drain hose 3 (blue marking) from tandem pump type 4.

Remove the mounting bolts.

Remove the tandem type 4 pump from the cylinder head.

Installation



Installation is carried out in reverse order, taking into account the following.

Note: Make sure the tandem pump and camshaft are connected correctly.


Note: The tandem pump seal must be replaced with a new one.


Install the tandem pump and tighten the upper mounting bolts to 20 Nm.

Tighten the lower mounting bolts to 10 Nm.

Connect the fuel drain hose (blue marking) to the corresponding terminal 3 of the tandem pump (fig. 2.338).

Connect the fuel supply hose (white marking) to the corresponding terminal 2 and the vacuum line from the brake booster 1 to the tandem pump 4.

Connect the fuel supply hose 1 (white marking) to the fuel filter (fig. 2.337).

Connect a hand vacuum pump with accessories with a container for sucking out liquid to the fuel drain hose 2.


Press the hand vacuum pump until no more fuel comes out of the fuel drain hose. Be careful not to let any fuel get into the hand vacuum pump.

Connect the fuel drain hose (blue marking) to the fuel filter.
