Removal and installation a turbocharger (VW Passat B4)

To remove, remove the air filter. Disconnect the wire from the negative terminal of the battery. Disconnect the exhaust pipe from the outlet elbow of the turbocharger.

Disconnect the oil supply line to the turbocharger.

Disconnect the suction and discharge air ducts.

Drain the coolant from the engine cooling system and disconnect the turbocharger cooling system hoses. Disconnect the oil drain line from the turbocharger. Unscrew the four nuts securing the turbocharger to the exhaust manifold. Remove the turbocharger.

To install, place the turbocharger in place and tighten the mounting nuts, having previously applied heat-resistant grease to the threads exposed to high temperatures. Attach the exhaust pipe and tighten the mounting nuts. Tighten the turbocharger mounting nuts to the specified torque, then the exhaust pipe mounting nuts. Connect the oil lines and air ducts. Connect the cooling system hoses, fill the cooling system with liquid as specified in the relevant section.

Install the air filter.

Start the engine and let it idle for a few minutes to restore oil circulation through the turbocharger bearings.
