Features of the lubrication system (VW Passat B4)

The lubrication system operates under pressure and includes a gear-type oil pump, an oil filter connected in series with the main engine oil line, and a water-oil heat exchanger. The lubrication system of turbocharged diesel engines also includes an oil cooler. The oil pump is driven by the intermediate shaft gear.

On engines "1Y", "RA", "SB" the oil pressure sensor is installed in the cylinder block and measures the oil pressure in the main oil line. Engines "AAZ", "1Z" and "AFN" have two oil pressure sensors, which are installed on the oil filter cover.

Response pressure on vehicles with engines "1U", "RA" and "SB":

without turbocharger 0.15-0.45 kgf/cm²;
with turbocharger 0.75-1.05 kgf/cm²;

On cars with engines "AAZ" and "1Z":

sensor with brown block 0.3 kgf/cm²;
sensor with a gray block 0.9 kgf/cm².

Note: The "AFN" engine is equipped with sensors with a blue connector (0.25 kgf/cm²) and with a gray block (0.9 kgf/cm²).
