Maintenance of the lubrication system (VW Passat B4)
The engine oil level should be checked every 500 km and before each long-distance trip. The check is performed on a cold engine or a few minutes after it has been stopped on a level horizontal surface. The oil should be changed after 7,500 km or every year of operation on vehicles with engines "1Y", "RA", "SB" and "AAZ"; every 15,000 km or every year of operation on vehicles with "1Z" and "AFN" engines.
