Removal and installation the ignition distributor sensor (VW Passat B4)

To remove, disconnect the wires from the battery. Disconnect all high-voltage wires from the distributor sensor. Remove the clutch housing hatch cover. Set the piston of the 1st cylinder to the TDC position of the end of the compression stroke. In this case, the mark on the flywheel should be aligned with the mark on the clutch housing (Fig. 2-49).



Depending on the configuration, disconnect the shielding braid. Disconnect the connector from the Hall sensor.

Remove the interference suppression screen and the ignition distributor cover.

Disconnect the hose from the vacuum regulator of the ignition timing angle.

Remove the mounting bracket and take out the ignition distributor sensor.

To install, make sure that the piston of the 1st cylinder is in the TDC position. Set the locking lug of the oil pump drive shaft parallel to the crankshaft. Set the distributor rotor opposite the groove on the distributor sensor housing and install the distributor sensor. Install the mounting bracket without tightening the mounting bolt. Install the interference suppression screen and the distributor sensor cover.



Connect the hose to the vacuum regulator of the ignition timing angle. Connect the high-voltage wires, the Hall sensor connector and the shielding braid to the sensor-distributor (if there is one). Set the ignition timing as shown below.
