Electronic anti-theft system (VW Passat B3)

Since 10/94, VW PASSAT vehicles have been equipped with an electronic anti-theft system as standard. When activated, the system prevents the engine from starting if a non-standard ignition key is used.

Caution: When replacing the engine control unit, the new control unit must be configured according to the installed anti-theft system.

Action:

When the ignition is turned on, the anti-theft system is activated. At the same time, electrical energy is transmitted by induction through the transponder reading coil in the key.

The key code is read and transmitted to the control unit, where this code is compared with the recorded value. Finally, the engine control unit code is checked.

If the codes do not match, the engine will stall within 2 seconds at most.

The reading coil is installed on the steering wheel shaft lock housing and is connected to the control unit by a wire.

The transponder of the reading coil is built into the ignition key. The transponder is a power-free transceiver that contains a different code for each key.
