Vehicles with 1.4-/1.6-litre FSI engine BKG/BLN/BAG/BLF/BLP.
Caution! On other engines, the timing belt must be removed before removing the water pump. For this reason, water pump removal and installation on these engines is not covered in this chapter.
Removal
1. Drain the coolant.
2. Remove the right mudguard, see the corresponding chapter.
3. Loosen the water pump belt pulley mounting bolts without removing the V-belt. If necessary, hold the belt pulley from turning with an adjustable wrench on the two mounting bolt heads.
4. Remove the V-belt, see the relevant chapter.
5. Unscrew bolts 3 securing belt pulley 4 of the water pump and remove the pulley (see illustration).
6. Unscrew the mounting bolts 2 of the water pump 1 and remove it from the cylinder block 5 (see illustration 5.5).
Attention! The integrated water pump seal must not be removed. If it is damaged or leaking, the pump must be replaced as a set.
Installation
The water pump is installed in the reverse order of removal. When tightening the bolts securing the pulley to the water pump shaft, hold it from turning.

Tightening torques for threaded connections:
- water pump mounting bolts to cylinder block - 9 Nm;
- pump belt pulley christening bolts - 20 Nm.
