Vehicles with 1.4-/1.6 liter FSI engine BKG/BLN/BAG/BLF/BLP.
Attention! Other engines require the timing belt to be removed before removing the water pump. For this reason, the removal and installation of the water pump on these engines is not covered in this chapter.
Removing
1. Drain the coolant.
2. Remove the right fender liner, see the relevant chapter.
3. Loosen the water pump belt pulley bolts without removing the ribbed belt. If necessary, hold the belt pulley from turning with an adjustable wrench by the two heads of the fastening bolts.
4. Remove the ribbed belt, see relevant chapter.
5. Unscrew the bolts 3 fastening the belt pulley 4 of the water pump and remove the pulley (see illustration).
6. Unscrew the mounting bolts 2 of the water pump 1 and remove it from the cylinder block 5 (see illustration 5.5).
Attention! The integral water pump seal must not be removed. If it is damaged or leaking, the pump must be replaced as a set.
Installation
The water pump is installed in the reverse order of removal. When tightening the pulley mounting bolts on the water pump shaft, keep it from turning.
Tightening torques for threaded connections:
- bolts for fastening the water pump to the cylinder block - 9 Nm;
- pump belt pulley baptism bolts - 20 Nm.
