Required Consumables
Engine oil recommended by VW.
Examination
1. Warm up the engine and place the car on a level surface.
2. Stop the engine and wait for about a few minutes to allow the oil to drain into the sump.
3. Pull out the oil dipstick 2 (probe) and wipe it dry with a clean cloth (see illustration).
4. Insert the dipstick all the way into place, and then pull it out again and check the oil level.
The engine oil level is normal if it is within the designation B on the dipstick (see illustration 7.4).
If the oil level is near the mark marked in illustration 7.4 with the letter C, then oil is needed.
If the oil level is within the limits indicated by the letter A, then there is no need to add oil.
Attention! If the oil level is above the A mark, then the excess oil must be removed, because this may damage the seals or the catalyst.
When the engine is subjected to high operating loads, for example, when constantly driving long distances in the summer, driving a car with a trailer or in mountainous terrain, the engine oil level should be at the top of the B mark on the dipstick (see illustration 7.4).
5. Fill oil through the oil filler neck in the cylinder head cover (see illustration 7.4). Use only recommended types and grades of oils, do not use any additives, see chapter «Engine lubrication system».
6. Replace the dipstick and screw the cap onto the filler neck.
