Dismantling the suspension strut
- 1 - a device for compressing the spring;
- 2 - a tool for unscrewing a self-locking nut;
- 3 - curved hex key, 7 mm;
- 4 - torque wrench handle;
- 5 - clamps of the device for spring compression
Removing
1. Remove the shock absorber.
2. Install the grips of the spring compressor on the outer coils of the shock absorber spring and compress the tool so that the coils of the spring move away from the spring support plates (see fig. Dismantling the suspension strut).
Warning: When installing the claws on the coils of the spring, make sure that the claws are securely fixed on the spring and do not come off when the spring is compressed. Compress the spring evenly on both sides. Never tighten the coils of the spring with wire, as the compression force of the spring is very high and there is a danger of an accident.
3. While holding the shock absorber rod against turning with a 7 mm bent wrench, unscrew the self-locking nut.
Warning: The central fastening nut can only be unscrewed when the spring is compressed.
4. Remove all parts of the rack and remove the shock absorber from the spring.
5. If only the spring needs to be replaced, decompress it slowly. If only the shock absorber is replaced, the spring remains compressed.
6. Check all suspension strut components for wear, damage or deformation. Check the smoothness of the shock absorber rod.
7. Check the shock absorber for leaks, as well as its stem for pitting along the entire length. If there are defects, the shock absorber will be replaced.
8. Coil springs are identified by colored marks and if a spring needs to be replaced, it is advisable to replace both springs at the same time.
Warning: The new spring has an anti-corrosion lacquer finish. Before installing the spring, check the integrity of the coating and, if necessary, tint the spring.
Assembly
1. If a new spring is being installed, compress it with a spring compressor.
2. Install all parts of the suspension strut to the shock absorber.
3. Install the lower coil of the spring in such a way that it is correctly located in the lower spring plate.
4. Screw on the hex nut (see fig. Front suspension shock absorber) on the shock absorber rod and tighten it to 60 Nm. Use a 7mm bent hex wrench to hold the damper rod from turning.
5. Slowly decompress the spring compressor. Check that the extreme coils of the spring are correctly located in the spring plates.
6. Install the shock absorber.
