Front suspension shock absorber

  • 1 - self-locking nut, 60 Nm. A new self-locking nut must be used during installation;
  • 2 - emphasis;
  • 3 - shock absorber mount;
  • 4 - nut, 60 Nm;
  • 5 - shock absorber strut bearing;
  • 6 - axial spherical support;
  • 7 - protective sleeve;
  • 8 - spring plate;
  • 9 - coil spring. When replacing, use a spring with the same color marking;
  • 10 - self-locking nut, 50 Nm + turn 90° further. When installing, it is necessary to use a new self-locking nut. It is possible to turn the nut at an angle from 90° to 120°;
  • 11 - steering knuckle;
  • 12 - Bolt. A new bolt must be used when installing;
  • 13 - shock absorber. The shock absorbers must be replaced in pairs;
  • 14 - buffer;
  • 15 - protective cover

  • 1 - lower ball joint mounting bolts;
  • 2 - caliper mounting bolts;
  • 3 - connecting plastic rod;
  • 4 - traction control mounting bolt

Execution order



1. Loosen the front wheel mounting bolts, then raise the front of the vehicle and secure it on stands.



2. Remove the front wheels.

3. Remove the two bolts (2) securing the front brake caliper (see picture Lower part of front suspension). Without disconnecting the brake hose from the caliper, use a soft wire to hang the caliper to the body. Do not stretch or twist the brake hose.

4. Unscrew the bolt (4) securing the connecting rod (3) to the lower arm (see picture Lower part of front suspension).

5. Disconnect the speed sensor wire from the shock absorber.

6. Remove the lower engine compartment splash shield.

7. Unscrew the right drive shaft from the gearbox.

8. Unscrew the nut and remove the clamp bolt of the lower shock absorber mount to the steering knuckle.

9. Using a large screwdriver blade or a pry bar, loosen the gap in the steering knuckle. At the same time, an assistant should press down on the brake disc to remove the steering knuckle from the shock absorber strut. To loosen the gap in the shock absorber strut, you can use the special VW 3424 tool or a tool made by yourself (a = 8 mm, b = 5.5 mm).


9. Using a large screwdriver blade or a pry bar, loosen the gap in the steering knuckle. At the…


10. While holding the shock absorber rod from turning with a 7 mm offset Allen key (1) or key 2593-21, unscrew the self-locking nut securing the shock absorber rod.

11. Carefully remove the shock absorber strut from under the vehicle wing.
