Side decorative cornice (VW Golf 2)

In models before August 1989, the side decorative cornices were glued to the body. Before disassembling, the cornice must be heated with a stream of hot air until the glue becomes plastic. Using a fishing line, the cornice is separated from the body. Before installing the side decorative cornice, the sheet metal surface must be cleaned with gasoline. Wipe and heat to a temperature of 35°C.

The new decorative cornice must be heated to a temperature of about 60°C. Remove the protective foil and apply it to the body, paying attention to its correct position. Press the cornice firmly to the body.

Since September 1989, decorative cornices have been attached using latches. By lifting the cornice at the point of attachment with a screwdriver, it can be easily removed. Care must be taken not to scratch the varnish. The cornice is installed by pressing the latches of the cornice into the corresponding sockets.
