Removal
1. Disconnect the ground wire from the battery.
2. Disconnect all wires from the starter solenoid relay, noting their position.
3. Remove the bolt securing the exhaust pipe bracket and starter to the clutch housing (if available), then other nuts and bolts for fastening the starter (figure D:27).
On 1.5/1.6/1.8 L engines the starter may have an additional support plate. Remove the plate by unscrewing the bolts (figure D:28), or by removing the large retaining ring (on some models).
4. Remove the starter from the clutch housing and from the vehicle.
Installation
1. Install the starter in the reverse order of removal. Make sure that the starter flange is fully pressed against the clutch housing. Tighten the mounting bolts to the torque specified in Section "Technical data".
2. Connect the electrical wires. The connections must be secure.
3. Connect the ground wire to the battery and check the operation of the starter.
