Checking the steering system for leaks (VW Touareg 1)

NOTE: It is necessary to check the tightness of the steering system after installation work and when there is no oil in the reservoir.


Start the engine.

Turn the steering wheel in both directions until it stops and hold it there for a short time. This will create maximum pressure in the system (only at idle speed).

In this situation, it is necessary to check the parts listed below for leaks.

Steering gear valve body seal ring.

All pipeline connections.

Rack sealing rings.

This check is only carried out with the anthers moved back.

Open the boot clamp.

Slide the boot back. If oil is visible in the steering gear housing and/or boots, the steering gear must be replaced.
