Checking the hydraulic system for leaks (VW Sharan 1)

To check the hydraulic system for leaks, do the following:

• turn the steering wheel in both directions until it stops and hold the front wheels in the extreme position for a short time. This will create the highest pressure in the hydraulic system, which will allow you to find the place where the fluid is leaking;
• check the steering gear area (rotary damper), rubber seals on the rack, rack ends (rack sealing rings), power steering pump and hose connection points. Liquid leaking from these areas indicates a leak.
