Inspection, installation and repair work must be performed only by trained specialists. Before working on the airbag system, disconnect the negative terminal from the battery. You can start working immediately after disconnecting the battery. Before connecting the airbag system to external power sources, make sure that there are no people in the car. Before touching the airbags, the mechanic must discharge electrostatic voltage. To do this, touch a grounded metal object, such as a water pipe, heating pipe or metal ceiling. The airbag must be installed immediately after removing it from the container. Removed airbags are stored with the front side up. It is prohibited to install airbags that have fallen on a hard surface or are damaged.

Additional Safety Provisions for Working with Overhead Air Bags

Damaged pillar trims cannot be repaired and must always be replaced. Do not bend or twist the upper airbags. After performing bodywork in the area of the upper airbags, check the body for metal splashes, deformations, and possible friction areas (compare with the other side). When replacing a deployed upper airbag, be sure to replace the headliner, door opening seals with edge, upper airbag guides, handle brackets, as well as the A, B, C pillar trims and, if present, the D pillar. If damaged, also replace the rear reading lights, handles and headliner end trim.

Accident without airbag deployment

If the airbag system indicator lamp (K75) does not indicate a malfunction, the airbag system parts and components are not subject to replacement. Perform a separate check of the seat belts.
