Removing
Instruction: The removal and installation of the airbag is described for the case of the multifunction steering wheel. Carry out work with a screwdriver about 175 mm long with a tip width of 7 mi.
Remove the negative terminal from the battery. Set the steering wheel to its highest position. Move the steering wheel towards you to the end position. Turn the steering wheel to the position shown in the figure, insert the screwdriver until it stops (about 8 mm) into the hole on the back of the steering wheel. Turn the screwdriver towards the driver's door -arrow- and thus unlock the airbag latch on the right side of the steering wheel. Turn the steering wheel 180°and unlock the airbag latch on the left side of the steering wheel as described above. Turn steering wheel 90°back to center position. Remove airbag from steering wheel
WARNING: Electrostatic discharges can cause the airbags to deploy unintentionally. Therefore, before disconnecting the squib wires and the ground wire, the mechanic must remove the electrostatic voltage. To do this, you can touch, for example, the unpainted metal part of the door lock.
Release lock and disconnect connector -1-.
Instructions: This connector is only installed on the multifunction steering wheel.
Move in -direction of arrow- to unlock the airbag connector -2- and disconnect it.
Installation
Check whether the wiring harness -3- is routed as shown in the illustration. Connect airbag connector -2- to connector. The airbag connector should click into place. Connect connector -1- to block. Push the airbag into the steering wheel. Check the fixation of the airbag on the right and left sides in the steering wheel.
Turn on the ignition. Connect the negative terminal to the battery.
