Removing
Loosen the wheel bolts, raise the front of the vehicle and place it on stands. Remove wheels.
Remove cotter pins from tie rod ends and unscrew nuts. When removing the right link, first remove the steering damper.
Using a puller, remove the tie rod joint and then the tie rod itself.
Installation
Check the tie rods for kinks, their ends for wear, and the dust cap for damage.
Attention! Bent tie rods must not be straightened and must be replaced. Defective tie rod ends also need to be replaced.
Install both tie rods so that the left-hand thread is on the left in the direction of travel. If a new tie rod is installed, then before that you need to adjust it to the length of the old one by screwing or unscrewing the tie rod ends.
Install the cross bar. Tighten the nut to 30 Nm (3.0 kgcm). If necessary, tighten the nut further until the cotter pin can be inserted. Pin the nut on each side, bend the cotter pin.
Install the tie rod ends on the same axle. In doing so, loosen the nuts on the clamping collars or the hexagon nuts on the cone rings, and move both ends of the tie rod in the same direction until they stop. In this position, re-tighten and, if necessary, secure the nuts of the conical rings or clamping collars. Attach the steering damper to the tie rod and adjust the toe of the front wheels.
Install the wheels, lower the vehicle and tighten the wheel bolts to 130 Nm (13 kgcm).
Check wheel alignment (see section "Wheel geometry").
