The rack and pinion steering mechanism is maintenance-free and cannot be repaired. If damaged, the mechanism must be replaced as a set. If there is any play, the steering mechanism can be adjusted.

Adjustment

Access to the adjusting bolts is open from the trunk side.

Remove the spare wheel and remove the plugs.

Loosen the lock nut on the adjusting bolt.

Loosen the lock nut on the adjusting bolt.

Turn the adjusting bolt by hand until it rests against the pressure washer, then secure the bolt with the lock nut, holding it with a wrench.

Examination

Raise the front of the car enough to allow the wheels to turn freely. Turn the steering wheel left and right.

If the steering mechanism moves stiffly and returns to its original position with difficulty, then there is little play.

If the rack moves too far, there is too much play or damage.
