Removal

Remove the shock absorber strut, see the relevant chapter above.

Caution: To remove the shock absorber, the coil spring must be compressed using a suitable spring compressor.

Caution: Never release the shock absorber mount unless the coil spring is securely compressed.

Caution: Never release the shock absorber mount unless the coil spring is securely compressed.

Compress the coil spring with a suitable spring compressor. The illustration shows a spring compressor from the VW group. The HAZET 4900-2A tool with the HAZET 4900-11 receivers can also be used.

Caution: Make sure that the receivers of the device securely grip the coils of the spring and cannot slip off. The coil spring is compressed with great force, so use only a serviceable tool. Never tie the spring with wire. Risk of accident!

Caution: Loosen the top nut only after the spring is securely compressed.

Holding the shock absorber piston rod with a "2" key with a 7 mm external hexagon, for example, HAZET 2593-1, unscrew the nut from the support cup side with a replaceable socket head HAZET 2593-21, 1 - a handle with a ratchet or, respectively, a torque wrench, 3 - shock absorber strut support.

Ensure that the coil spring is positioned correctly in the receivers of the compression device, for example, VAG 1752/4 "arrow".

Note: If the spring is to be replaced, it must be released slowly. If the shock absorber is to be replaced, do not release the spring and remove it together with the compression device and individual parts.

Check the shock absorber, see page 112.

If necessary, dispose of the shock absorber.

Installation

Note: Coil springs may have different tolerances. Only springs with the same color marking and from the same manufacturer should be installed on one axle.

Note: The new coil spring is protected against corrosion by a clear varnish. The outer surface must not be damaged.

Check the shock absorber.

Place the limiting buffer and corrugated cover on the shock absorber.

Place the limiting buffer and corrugated cover on the shock absorber.

Place the compressed coil spring together with the compression device on the lower plate of the shock absorber.

The end of the spring coil should be adjacent to the "arrow" stop.

Place the thrust bearing and shock absorber support on the spring.

Screw the new self-locking nut onto the shock absorber piston rod and tighten to a torque of 60 Nm.

Slowly release the spring.

Install the shock absorber strut, see the relevant chapter.
