Location of the control units of the central locking system on the car

Elements of the central locking system that controls the door lock

- 1 - protective cover,
- 2 - door lock button rod,
- 3 - door lock button,
- 4 - internal door opening handle,
- 5 - inner door opening handle rod,
- 6 - actuator electric motor,
- 7 - door lock,
- 8 - lock closing device
The central locking system consists of a control unit, two or four door control units, four door locks, and an electric motor and switch in the boot lid/tailgate.
When the front doors or the luggage compartment are opened or closed, the central locking system simultaneously opens or closes all the doors, the fuel filler flap and, depending on the position of the luggage compartment lock, this lock as well.
The central locking system also provides the ability to open either of the two front doors, as well as the luggage compartment, while all other locks remain locked.
In a central locking system with five control devices, if the control device of an individual door fails, the rest of the system remains operational. Also, communication between the central control unit and the control device in the door is carried out only via two wires, see Fig. Location of control units of the central locking system on the car.
The central control unit is located under the carpet on the floor of the car in front of the driver's seat. The door control units are located on the window lift motor. On models from IX.1996 to IX.1997, the control unit in the driver's door is located under the control panel on the door.
The central locking system includes the following functions:
- central locking of the boot lid/rear door,
- control of interior lighting in the cabin,
- remote control,
- hatch control,
- anti-theft device control,
- central locking of rear door locks with electric power windows installed,
- when the airbag is deployed, the door locks are immediately unlocked,
- self-diagnosis of the system,
- several modes can be used to control door locks.
In a vehicle equipped with a central locking system, the following devices are installed in the door:
- door lock,
- 5 microswitches transmitting information to the control unit about the position of the door lock. Three microswitches are installed in the rear door lock,
- two door opening handles,
- lock cylinder,
- electric motor controlling the door lock (see fig. Elements of the central locking system controlling the door lock).
