Ignition or instrument and starter switch (VW Passat B4)

The ignition or instrument and starter switch with anti-theft device is located on the steering column on the right. The switch key has the following positions (Fig. 6):

• 1 — everything is off, when the key is removed, the anti-theft device is turned on. To turn on the anti-theft device, remove the key from the lock and turn the steering wheel until the steering shaft lock is activated (until it clicks). To turn off the anti-theft device, insert the key into the lock and turn it, while simultaneously turning the steering wheel in both directions;
• 2 — ignition of gasoline engine is on, pre-heating of diesel engine is on;
• 3 - the starter is on. If the engine does not start on the first try, turn the key back to position 1 and then try to start the engine again.
