As a rule, the VW PASSAT is equipped with a rear antenna. The wire heating element of the rear window is also used for radio reception. For this, an additional antenna amplifier is required, which is located on the left side in the space between the back of the rear seat and the rear window of the body. Access to the amplifier is possible from the luggage compartment. A conventional rod antenna can also be used for radio reception, the removal and installation of which is described below.

Removal

Disconnect the battery ground cable.

Remove the radio.

Remove the lower footwell cover.

Remove the wheel arch lining, see chapter "Body".

Pull out the antenna cable. First tie a thread or suitable cord to the cable to make it easier to install later.

Unscrew the antenna union nut.

Unscrew the antenna union nut.

Pull antenna "1" down into the wheel well and unfasten it from holder "2".

Installation

There is already a hole in the left front wing for additional installation of the antenna. In this case, remove the protective cap and screw the holder for the antenna into the wheel well.

Insert the antenna into the wheel well holder.

Insert the antenna from below through the hole in the wing and tighten it with a union nut.

Note: If the antenna is installed additionally, insert it so that when extended it is slightly tilted back inwards. Pay attention to the antenna manufacturer's instructions.

Place rubber inserts on the antenna cable.

Lead the antenna cable into the passenger compartment through the side opening in the wheel arch. Securely close the openings with rubber inserts.

Pull the antenna cable through with a thread and route it behind the instrument panel.

Install the wheel arch trim.

Connect the radio and check the reception.

Match the antenna.

Install the radio.
