Insert a 0.65 mm thick adjusting washer into the bearing race, insert the outer race of the smaller bearing. Insert the secondary shaft and screw in the bearing cover bolts. Tightening torque 40 Nm. Install the three-piece device shown in Figure 354 onto the shaft. Zero the indicator readings and set the initial value to 1.0 mm.

Move the shaft from top to bottom and read the indicator readings (for example 0.30 mm). The shaft must not be rotated during the measurement.
To obtain the required value of bearing preload, add 0.20 mm to the obtained value.
Example of determining the required thickness of the adjusting washer:
- thickness of the inserted washer: 0.65 mm
- measured value: +0.30 mm
- initial tension value: +0.20 mm
- required washer thickness: = 1.15 mm
After the measurement is taken, remove the shaft and the outer bearing race from the housing. Insert a washer of the selected thickness, insert the bearing race and install the secondary shaft, as well as the bearing cover. The gaskets are available in 16 thickness sizes with a step of 0.05 mm (from 0.65 to 1.40 mm).
