Removing
Similar to removal from a 1.3 liter engine, however, the following must be done in addition:
- For 1.6L engines. release before December 1984 - disconnect the wire going to the breaker contacts from the ignition coil;
- For 1.6 and 1.8 liter engines from January 1985, disconnect the wires from the ignition distributor going to the switch.
Installation
Remove the plug with the TDC sensor holes.
Set the flywheel by turning the crankshaft to the TDC position of the 1st cylinder. To do this, place the transmission in neutral and apply the parking brake. Turn the crankshaft at the center bolt of the belt pulley (clockwise) until the marks on the belt pulley match the arrow on the toothed belt housing. At the same time, the mark on the flywheel must match the reference mark.
Insert a screwdriver into the hole for the ignition distributor, the drive pin of the oil pump shaft parallel to the crankshaft (perpendicular to the direction of the vehicle).
Contact ignition systems. On the removed ignition distributor, set the ignition distributor slider so that the mark of the l-th cylinder (risk) facing the distributor housing.
Insert the ignition distributor in this position. Don't forget to put on the gasket. Fix the ignition distributor with a coupling bolt.
Electronic ignition systems. On the removed ignition distributor, set the ignition distributor slider so that the mark of the 1st cylinder (risk) facing the distributor housing.
Insert the ignition distributor in this position. Don't forget to put on the gasket. Fix the ignition distributor with a bolt.
Before installation, clean the ignition distributor cap, pay attention to cracks, traces of leakage currents (black channels) and, if required, replace the cap.
1.8L Engines, January 1985 1.6L Engines—Disconnect the wires from the ignition distributor to the switch.
1.6 L engines prior to December 1984 - Connect the breaker contact wire to the ignition coil.
Engines with a displacement of 1.8 liters, engines with a displacement of 1.6 liters of production since January 1985 - connect the wires going to the switch to the ignition distributor.
Place a plug on the TDC sensor hole.
If equipped, connect the vacuum hose to the vacuum box on the ignition distributor.
Adjust ignition timing.
