Removal and installation the ignition distributor (VW Transporter T4)

Complete removal of the ignition distributor is only necessary for extensive repair work.

Removal



1. Set the crankshaft to the TDC position for cylinder 1.

2. Disconnect the high voltage wires from the distributor and remove the distributor cover; to do this, open the two side locks with a screwdriver.

3. Disconnect the plug from the Hall sensor.

4. Unscrew the locking screw on the distributor stand, having first removed the protective cap. Remove the stopper and take out the ignition distributor.

Attention! Do not change the position of the engine crankshaft when the distributor is removed.


Installation



1. Before installation, check the engine position at TDC for cylinder 1. This means that the marks on the crankshaft belt pulley or flywheel, as well as the camshaft drive gear, must match.

2. In the opening of the ignition distributor, install the landing journal of the oil pump shaft parallel to the propeller shaft (longitudinal axis of the engine).

3. Install the distributor runner so that the mark on it coincides with the mark on the edge of the distributor housing. In this case, the dust cap must be removed.



4. Install the ignition distributor in this position and secure it.

5. Remove the distributor rotor, remove the dust cap and reinstall the rotor. Check the reliability of the rotor by gently rotating it from side to side.

6. Put on the distributor cap, close the plate locks, after checking the cap for cracks, replace if necessary.

7. If disconnected, connect the high voltage wires to the distributor cap.

8. Adjust the ignition timing.
