Checking the angle of the closed state of contacts (contact ignition system) (VW Golf 2)

For precise measurement of UZSK, a special measuring device is used at service stations. This device has the advantage of allowing precise setting of the required UZSK even with burnt contacts of the breaker. When using a special device, connect it according to the operating instructions.

Checking with a special device

Start the engine and let it run at about 1000 rpm. Read the instrument readings.

After this, increase the engine speed approximately twice. The pointer on the instrument scale should deviate no more than ±1° from the previous reading. Large deviations of the pointer indicate wear of the distributor shaft. In this case, the distributor must be replaced.

Compare the measured value with the specified value:

Wear	42-58

This means that the set value on the new breaker contact must be adjusted and that if the closing angle is in the wear zone, it cannot be adjusted.
