Checking the distributor rotor, wires, spark plug tips (VW Golf 2)

To form a normal spark, the resistance of the distributor rotor must not be too high.

To check the distributor rotor, do the following:

• Remove the distributor cap.
• Connect an ohmmeter to the distributor rotor (figure 162). Set value: (5±1.0) kOhm.

To check the spark plug tip, connect an ohmmeter to its ends. The specified value for a spark plug tip with a radio interference filter should be (5±1.0) kOhm, and for a spark plug tip without a radio interference filter it should be (1±0.4) kOhm.

To check the spark plug wires, connect an ohmmeter to their ends.

Their resistance values should be as follows:

• wire between the ignition distributor and the spark plug, kOhm — 1.2-7.4
• wire between ignition distributor and ignition coil, kOhm — 1.2-2.8
• connector with radio interference filter "3", kOhm - 0.6-1.4
