Starter replacement (VW Golf 2)

Remove the terminals from the battery. Raise the front of the car. Disconnect the wires from the starter. Remember the order in which the wires are connected.

For engine with manual transmission:

• Loosen the fastening nuts and bolts.
• Remove the starter.

For engine with automatic transmission:

• Remove the top central mount bolt.
• Disconnect the drive shaft from the starter side.
• Unscrew the lower central mounting bolt and remove the rear heat-insulating casing.
• Disconnect the wires from the "30" and "50" connectors.
• Turn the wheels all the way to the right.
• Unscrew the casing bracket from the starter.
• Move the drive shaft back and up.
• Remove the starter from underneath the vehicle, gear side up.

The starter is installed in the reverse order.

Please pay attention to the correct connection of the wires.
