Repairing a rusted exhaust system is in most cases unsuccessful. If the metal is rusted, it is so weakened that it is impossible to perform welding work. Although the exhaust system is durable, the metal soon breaks near the repaired areas.
Very rarely do both mufflers need to be replaced at the same time. If one muffler is replaced, then after a few months, unfortunately, the second one fails. For this reason, workshops change the entire exhaust system at once. But we do not recommend doing this without a preliminary check. The check is carried out as follows.
Thoroughly, in all places, tap the dismantled, but still serviceable muffler with a hammer. Hit more decisively.
If a ringing (high) sound is heard with each blow, this means that the metal is still "healthy".
If the sound becomes muffled in some places, this indicates that the outer shell has already weakened and will soon break, especially at the time of year when salt is spread on the roads.
When repairing, replace old fasteners with new ones.
Old, weakened rubber holders are also replaced.
