Removal the exhaust pipe (VW Golf 1)

The same instructions apply to the connection of the exhaust pipe to the cylinder head as for the threaded connection between it and the front exhaust pipe. Without the use of a rust dissolving agent, the bolts on the cylinder head are easily torn off. This is a decade-long mistake, because without removing the cylinder head it is hardly possible to drill out the remains of the bolts.

Disconnect the front exhaust pipe from the elbow.

Loosen the exhaust pipe bolts and remove it.

Remove any remaining seal from the cylinder head and exhaust manifold flange.

A new seal is installed during assembly.
