Removing the headlight
If the headlight glass is damaged or the reflector has become dim, the headlight must be replaced. The diffusing glass and the headlight mirror are glued together and are not supplied separately. A new headlight on sale may be with or without a fixing ring. If it is included, then it is more expensive, but there are less difficulties during installation, because, as experience shows, this plastic part is destroyed during disassembly, which then still needs to be bought additionally.
Remove grille (see chapter "Body", chapter "Radiator grille").
Take out the lamp.
Unscrew three or four headlight frame screws.
The illustration shows the rear side of the headlamp carrier (model "Jetta"): 1 - fixing screws of the direction indicator housing, 2 and 3 - plastic clips with set screws; 4 - plastic clip.
Remove the headlight assembly.
If the headlight insert is to be detached from the retaining ring, turn the plastic clip on the back of the retaining frame with pliers so that it can be released from the frame.
Unscrew the headlight adjusting screws from the frame.
Remove headlight insert.
Remove all clips from headlight insertion lugs and insert into new ones.
The arrows point to the headlight fasteners. carrier frame (1) inserts (3) headlight fixed with four screws (2) with cross slots.

H4 headlight installation
In many models "Volkswagen" there are conventional double-filament incandescent lamps from standard equipment. If you need to replace a normal damaged headlight in a car, consider whether this is a good reason to retrofit, because you can install a more powerful H4 headlight. Firm "Bosch" for this, it supplies a separate headlight, and the company "Hella" - mounting kit together with incandescent lamps.
At the old headlight, remove the connector and parking light cartridges.
Remove the headlight.
Install a new headlight.
Insert parking light socket into headlight H4; insert lamp.
Put on the connector and install the headlight.
