Replacing plastic lining (VW Golf 1)

If only the plastic covering is damaged, it can be replaced. But if the bumper itself is deformed, the only replacement available is the complete unit.

Remove the bumper.

On the Golf model, remove the front license plate holder.

Remove the old cladding.

To install the new plastic lining, the workshop uses a press and special tools.

Place the side clamping parts in soapy water for approximately 5 minutes.

Screw the bolt into the clamped part using 3-4 screw threads.

Use a plastic hammer to hit the part being clamped (to the reinforcing ribs in the plastic coating). Do not hit the bolt when doing this.

Hold the clamped part with pliers. At the same time tighten the bolt with a torque of 5 Nm. Thanks to this, the part is released like a dowel and firmly fixed.

Before pressing the coating, heat the plastic with a hair dryer or fan heater.

Starting from the middle of the buffer, all the fixing protrusions of the coating without exception must enter and lock into the corresponding holes of the steel support.
