The trunk lid cutout has virtually no access to the four screws that connect the rear lid to the hinges. To get to the locking screws located near the roof of the car, you have to move the upper trim a little. Volkswagen recommends drilling a hole in the trim near the hinges. But then the cutouts must be covered with covers (part number 171 867 923).

Disconnect the wires leading to the back cover.

Remove the seal slightly at the top.

Carefully detach the top trim from the edge of the metal.

"Jetta" Models

Open the lid; unscrew two screws on the right and left.

Remove the cover from the hinges.

Removal the rear spoiler

The spoiler on the trunk lid of the Jetta model equipped with Formula E is pressed against 5 plates. When removing, the plastic in the spoiler may break and it will no longer hold.

At the bottom of the trunk lid, unscrew 5 nuts if the bolts do not turn.

Remove the spoiler with its holders.

If this does not work, remove the spoiler from the holders.

Loosen the nuts at the bottom of the trunk lid while holding the corresponding bolt head at the top in the holder.

Adjusting the trunk lid

If the trunk lid does not close well or knocks, you need to loosen the lock pin bolts a little (see picture above).

Move the trunnion and tighten the bolts securely.

Check and, if necessary, further adjust the position of the trunk lid.

If necessary, adjust the fit by rotating the rubber stop on the lid.

Rear cover seal

If the trunk lid was perfectly positioned in its opening, but dirt or moisture still got in, it may be caused by a defective rubber seal.

Remove the rubber seal.

Install a new seal. The seal should be placed evenly on all edges, at the same height.

To care for the seal, use glycerin or a special rubber care product.
