Removal the front bumper (VW Golf 1)

While the previous metal bumpers would obviously lose their shape after a small impact, a bumper covered with plastic is more stable. Therefore, if the buffer beam experiences a light impact, you will not even find any damage on it. But the sheet to which the beam supports are screwed is deformed. This should be checked immediately if there was a small accident.



Front: unscrew two MB screws in the engine compartment on the side, near the longitudinal beams of the frame - in the direction of travel, on the right at the top, on the left at the bottom

On the Golf model: Disconnect the plug connections to the front direction indicators in the engine compartment.

At the back: unscrew two bolts on the side of the trunk.

Front and rear: Pull the bumper horizontally: the side parts slide along the side holders.



Remove the bumper holders and license plate holder if necessary.

On the Golf model, which has a metal bumper, carefully remove the plastic corners from the holes.

If the plastic is already old, in most cases the fixing lug in the corner of the bumper breaks.

When installing a bumper with a plastic lining, make sure that its side parts are inserted into the corresponding holders in the body.

Note: If you are installing a plastic-cased bumper on a Golf model, you must also install the side holders.
