Accurate diagnosis of any automatic transmission malfunction requires special equipment and experience, so it is recommended to contact a specialist in case of transmission malfunctions. This chapter includes descriptions of some simple automatic transmission adjustments.
One of the most common causes of abnormal automatic transmission operation is low oil level. Check the oil level if any abnormalities occur in the transmission (see chapter "Vehicle maintenance work"). A large loss of oil can lead to a complete failure of the transmission. Do not remove or disassemble the automatic transmission - as a rule, automatic transmission defects cannot be visually detected, and diagnostics are carried out directly on the car.
If the automatic transmission is found to be faulty, have a VW dealer repair it or exchange it for a factory rebuilt one.
WARNING: The normal operation of an automatic transmission is highly dependent on the condition of the engine and its characteristics. Poor alignment or general engine wear can look like a transmission problem, so check the transmission oil level and engine condition first.
