The operation of various units of the car's electrical equipment creates electrical interference, which is perceived by the radio receiver as noise. The level of interference created by various sources varies from car to car. After installing the audio system, check for radio interference, then take measures to eliminate it. In any case, interference from the ignition coil and generator must be suppressed.

Connect the (+) terminal of the ignition coil to the terminal of a 1 μF capacitor (for example, Lucas LS 627). Install the condenser mounting clamp under one of the coil mounting bolts (figure C:8).

Connect the (+) terminal of the ignition coil to the terminal of a 1 μF capacitor (for example,…

The generator has a terminal for connecting an interference-protecting capacitor (figure C:9), to which a capacitor with a capacity of 3 μF is connected (it may already be installed).

If interference persists after completing these steps, do the following:

Replace high-tension wires with higher-resistance wires. Install interference suppressors in the distributor cap (five pieces between the cover and the high voltage wires). Also install interference suppressors on the spark plug tips to which the high-voltage wires will be connected. Connect the ignition coil to the "ground" using a shield that covers it.

If interference is still noticeable, proceed as follows:

Disconnect the antenna from the radio and insert an antenna simulator instead of the antenna cable, which is an antenna plug with a capacitor of 68 to 82 pF connected between the pin and the screen. With the engine running, turn on the windshield wipers, windshield washers, heater fan, turn signals and brake lights. If there is interference in the tuning range of the radio, install a series choke in the power wire of the radio, for example, Lucas LS 630. If the interference does not disappear, connect capacitors between the power wires of various electrical devices and the "ground"; it may be necessary to install throttle bodies in the gap of the power supply wires. Check the reliability of the ground connections of the engine, transmission, suspension, steering column and gear shift lever. Install a new braided ground wire to each of these parts if necessary.
