Compression check (VW Lt 2d)

1. Disconnect the intake pipe 1 from the throttle body. Remove the spark plug protective cover 2 (figure 2.24).

2. Disconnect the connector (arrow) of the engine crankshaft speed sensor from the engine control unit (figure 2.43).





3. Remove the high voltage transformers of spark plugs 2 and 4 cylinders.

4. Loosen and disconnect the spark plug wires for cylinders 1 and 3.

5. Blow out the spark plug wells with compressed air.

6. Remove the spark plugs using the 3122 B spark plug wrench (figure 2.25).

7. Open the throttle valve fully.

8. Check the compression using the VAG 1381 or VAG 1763 compression tester (figure 2.44).





9. Rotate the engine crankshaft with the starter until the instrument indicates constant compression.

Compression value: min. 10.5 bar. Permissible difference between cylinders: 1.5 bar.

10. Screw in the spark plugs. Tightening torque: 25 Nm.

11. Connect the wire ends to the spark plugs of cylinders 1 and 3. Install the high-voltage transformers of the spark plugs of cylinders 2 and 4. Tightening torque: 10 Nm. Install the spark plug protective cover.

12. Connect the intake pipe 1 to the throttle body. Install the spark plug cover 2 (figure 2.25).

13. Read the fault codes and erase them.
