When connecting the tester, there should not be any faults recorded in the fault memory.

Connecting the VAG 1598 tester



1. Turn off the ignition.

2. Remove the left front turn signal, headlight and cover over the engine control unit.

3. First disconnect connector 1, then connectors 2 and 3 from the engine control unit (figure 2.72).

4. Connect the connectors as follows (figure 2.73):
  • connector 2 to the tester matching connector (blue);
  • tester matching connector (blue) to the Motronic control unit;
  • connector 3 to the matching connector of the tester;
  • 2-pin tester connector to the Motronic control unit;
  • connector 1 to the tester matching connector (red);
  • tester matching connector (red) to the Motronic control unit.

5. Turn off the ignition.

6. First, disconnect connector 1 from the tester's matching connector (red) (figure 2.73). Then disconnect all connectors.

7. First, connect connectors 2 and 3 to the control unit.

8. Connect connector 1 to the control unit.

9. Install the cover on the control unit.

10. Perform the basic installation.

11. Install the left front turn signal and headlight. Check the headlight aiming angle and adjust it if necessary.
