1. Connect the VAG 1551 fault code reader to the diagnostic connector with 1 wire VAG 1551/5 with the ignition off (figure 2.67a).

2. After connecting the reader, depending on the function you require, turn on the ignition or start the engine. The display should show the following information:

Self-diagnosis VAG HELP
  • 1 - Gearbox data*
  • 2 - LT Diagnostics*

* appears alternately


3. Press button "2" to select the "LT Diagnostics" function.

4. Press "08" to select the "Engine Electronics" function and confirm by pressing "0". Diode 1 on the VAG 1551/5 diagnostic cable should light up (figure 2.67b).

The display should show the following information:

2D0906020C 2.3I MOTRONIC 34/95


The fault code reader display should show the engine control unit identification data:
  • 2D0906020C- engine control unit number;
  • 2. 3 I - working volume;
  • MOTRONIC- designation of the engine management system;
  • 34/95 - software version.
