These devices differ from conventional fuel injection pumps in that each pump-injector supplies fuel to one cylinder and is an isolated unit.
To carry out injection, the mechanical energy of pressing the camshaft cam is used. In this case, fuel is supplied to the inlet of the pump-injector under increased pressure, which is developed by the fuel (double with vacuum) pump.
The injector is controlled by the injection control unit, which sends control pulses to the pump injector.
In this case, the control unit takes into account the following parameters:
- signal from the accelerator pedal sensor containing information about the required engine power level;
- air flow meter data;
- coolant and incoming air temperature data;
- crankshaft speed and position sensor signals;
- camshaft position sensor signals;
- signals from other devices, depending on the vehicle's powertrain configuration.
