Checking the thermal switch (VW Beetle)

Since August 1975, the accelerator pump supply (see table at the end of the chapter) is adjusted depending on the intake air temperature. The supply is controlled by a thermal switch 1 in the air filter and a regulating valve 2 in the carburetor.



Remove the adjusting valve 2 from the carburetor and blow it out with your mouth.

At temperatures above +29°C (1600 engine) or above +20°C (engine 1300) the valve must be closed.

Cool the valve in the refrigerator. At temperatures below +21°C (1600 engine) or below +15°C (engine 1300) the valve must be open.
