Checking and adjusting the CO content in exhaust gases (VW Beetle)

Start the warm engine and leave it running. The oil temperature should be approximately 60°C. The choke in the carburetor should be fully open.

Adjust the idle speed using adjusting screw 3.


Adjust the idle speed using adjusting screw 3.

Connect the gas analyzer according to the manufacturer's instructions. Measure the CO content in the exhaust gases. The proper value is 2-4%.

If necessary, adjust the CO content using adjusting screw 2.

Check the idle speed again. Repeat adjustment if necessary.
