Removing
1. Disconnect the electrical connector of the oxygen sensor, which is located on the bulkhead of the engine compartment. Remove the sensor wiring from the mounting brackets.
2. Raise the car and secure it on stands.
3. Unscrew the oxygen sensor from the front exhaust pipe. On vehicles with 1.8-I engines, a VW-3337 wrench must be used to unscrew the oxygen sensor. In the absence of a special key to access the oxygen sensor, it is necessary to remove the front exhaust pipe.
Installation
1. Apply a light coat of G5 grease to the oxygen sensor threads.
When installing a new oxygen sensor, lubricant is already applied to its threads.
2. Screw the oxygen sensor into the exhaust pipe and tighten to 50 Nm.
3. Lower the car to the ground.
4. Connect the oxygen sensor electrical connector and secure the sensor wiring with brackets. Check that there is no contact between the oxygen sensor wiring and the exhaust pipe.
